Meets

Here is a list of Alpine Club meets. Select additional pages using the numbers at the bottom. A list of past meets is can be seen by clicking here.

The Meets programme provides great opportunities for fellow members to get to know each other in the climbing areas of the UK and the mountains of the world.  UK meets in particular offer the chance for members to drop in, even if it's just for an evening drink.

New members have often attended meets as guests of members before they joined and their presence on meets is particularly welcome both to widen their circle of acquaintance and to assist with maintaining that tradition of openness to prospective members. Non-members may attend meets as guests of members at the discretion of the meet coordinator.

Before attending please read the Meet Guidelines.

The AC CIC Meet is based at the CIC hut under the north face of Ben Nevis, Scotland. The purpose of the meet is for AC members to enjoy some early season mixed climbing conditions together. Therefore this meet is open to all members, but attendees should be comfortable climbing scottish grade IV in early season conditions.

The main aim of the meet is for participants to climb some early mixed style routes. However, there is no guarantee of good weather. Alternative activities from the CIC hut could include drytooling at Creag Dubh na Caillich or various mountaineering-style routes.

There will not be a centralised 'plan' or allocation of partners; instead after the Friday brief there will be an opportunity to talk and form plans and find partners. I will confirm that everyone has someone to climb with the following day before the brief concludes.

You are encouraged to utilise the WhatsApp group (details sent on booking) prior to arrival to make your intentions (routes, grades etc) known and get ahead of the game so to speak.

Nobody is to head into the hills alone whilst on the meet.

You are responsible for providing your own equipment, maps and guidebooks. (The CIC hut has a good library of guidebooks.)

Further details are included below and interested members should get in touch with the meet coordinators (details below) to book a place.

Travel

You will be responsible for your own transport but the meet WhatsApp group can be used to arrange lift shares / pick-ups  ahead of time.

Parking: Park at North Face car park, fees may apply.

Accommodation

For anyone who hasn’t used British club huts before, they are a bit like fairly basic, un-staffed alpine huts. (Note, the CIC is a mountain hut, everything you need for the weekend must be carried up a footpath for ~1.5hours.)

The hut has the following amenities:

Kitchen: Fully equipped – Pots, pans, utensils, crockery, and cutlery are provided.

Sitting/Dining: Room with tables and dining chairs, gas fire and small library of guidebooks.

Drying room: Yes.

Bathroom facilities: Toilet only, no showers.

Sleeping: Alpine-style platform bunks with mattresses provided. Please bring everything else that you may need – i.e. sleeping bags. There is one large mixed sleeping room.

Connectivity: Phone signal tends to be poor inside the hut but signal can normally be found outside/on the kitchen window.

Cleaning: We will need to give the hut a clean when we leave on Sunday, so please factor that into your plans. Cleaning supplies will be provided by the hut.

Additional Nights: You can book additional nights via the CIC hut website.

Food & Drink

Generally on meets, people fend for themselves, so please bring whatever you are likely to need for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Local Facilities

Fort William has several supermarkets and outdoor gear shops.

Arrival Time

The plan is for everyone to arrive on Friday evening.

Arrival time: Please indicate an estimated time of arrival on the WhatsApp group, or directly to me (James) on 07818844084 on the Friday morning.

Upon arrival please make yourself known to James or Felix and we will allocate you a bed.

There will be an initial brief at approximately 20:00 on the Friday evening.

Cost

The hut fees are £52 per person, which includes Friday and Saturday night. SMC members have their normal discount applied, bringing their cost to £0.

Non-Attendance

If you are unable to make the meet after all please let me know via WhatsApp (preferably) or email with as much notice as possible.
